Overview of Technology and Media in Everyday Persian
In modern Persian, you will hear many words related to phones, the internet, social networks, and different types of media. Some are originally Persian, and many are borrowed from English or French but pronounced with a Persian accent. In this chapter we focus on the most common words and phrases so that you can talk about technology and media in everyday life at a B1 level.
Remember that in everyday speech Iranians often mix English tech words with Persian grammar. You will learn how to recognize and use these in natural sentences.
Devices and Basic Tech Vocabulary
To talk about technology you first need the names of common devices. Many of these words are very frequent in daily life in Iran.
Mobile phones are central to modern communication. The most common word is “mobile” in different forms:
You can say:
“mobile” موبایل
or “cell phone” تلفن همراه
Computer also has two common words:
“computer” کامپیوتر
“laptop” لپتاپ
“Tablet” تبلت is used almost exactly like English in pronunciation.
The word for “device” in general is “ دستگاه” or more casually “ وسیله”.
For example:
کامپیوترَم خرابه.
My computer is broken.
موبایلِت کجاست؟
Where is your mobile?
Another very common word is “internet” اینترنت and “Wi‑Fi” وایفای. You will also hear “modem” مودِم.
Many people talk about “application” or “app” as:
برنامه
or
اَپ
or
اَپلیکِیشن
For “charger” people say “شارژَر” or more Persian “شارژِر موبایل” or “شارژِر لپتاپ”.
To talk about battery you say “باتِری” and everyone understands:
باتریِ موبایلم زود خالی میشه.
My phone’s battery runs out quickly.
Using the Internet and Social Media
In everyday life you often talk about connecting to the internet, sending messages, and using apps and social networks. The central verb is “to connect” وصل شدن.
Important nouns:

Examples:
من هر روز اینستاگرام چِک میکنم.
I check Instagram every day.
