8 Appendix

Introduction to the Appendix

The appendix gathers helpful reference material to support everything that has come before. It is not a place for new arguments, but a toolbox for review, memorization, and practical use in daily life. The topics here are presented briefly so that a beginner can quickly find key terms, important events, central verses about tawḥīd, and essential daily supplications.

Allah praises reflection on His words and remembrance of Him.

“(This is) a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, so that they may reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding may be reminded.”
Qur’an 38:29
“O you who have believed, remember Allah with much remembrance.”
Qur’an 33:41

This appendix helps you to remember, revise, and apply, not just to read and forget.

How to Use the Appendix

The appendix is designed for repeated use, not just for a single reading. A new Muslim or a beginner in Islamic studies can return to it when they forget a term, want to recall the order of certain events, need verses about tawḥīd, or want to learn short supplications.

The Prophet ﷺ encouraged gradual learning and consistent practice.

“The most beloved deeds to Allah are those that are most consistent, even if they are small.”
al‑Bukhari and Muslim

Treat each part of the appendix as something you can return to often, in small portions. This will help what you learn in the main chapters to stay alive in your heart.

Structure of the Appendix

The appendix contains four main parts, each with a clear purpose closely tied to the rest of the course.

First, there is a glossary of Islamic terms. Throughout the course, Arabic words such as tawḥīd, īmān, taqwā, and others have been used. The glossary gathers these terms in one place so you can confirm their basic meanings whenever you forget. Understanding key words is part of understanding the religion, since Allah chose these words for His revelation.

“Indeed, We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur’an so that you may understand.”
Qur’an 12:2

Second, there is a brief timeline of the prophets, from Adam عليه السلام to Muhammad ﷺ. The main chapters mention many prophets and show that their message is one message, the call to worship Allah alone. The timeline in the appendix does not re‑tell their stories. Instead it helps you see the flow of history as one continuous chain of guidance that leads to the final messenger.

“Mankind was [of] one religion, then Allah sent the prophets as bringers of good tidings and warners and sent down with them the Scripture in truth to judge between the people concerning that in which they differed.”
Qur’an 2:213

Third, you will find selected Qur’an verses on tawḥīd. These verses are chosen because they clearly teach Allah’s oneness in His Lordship, His right to be worshipped, and His names and attributes. They provide proof, comfort, and guidance. Memorizing even some of them strengthens faith, corrects misunderstandings, and gives you words from Allah to repeat in prayer and reflection.

“Allah bears witness that there is no deity except Him, and (so do) the angels and those of knowledge, upholding justice. There is no deity except Him, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.”
Qur’an 3:18

Fourth, there is a section of essential daily supplications. Duʿāʾ and dhikr are acts of worship and signs of a living heart. They connect your everyday actions, such as waking, sleeping, eating, traveling, and facing difficulties, with your belief in Allah. The appendix gathers short, authentic supplications, so that even a beginner can start practicing them immediately.

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Duʿāʾ is worship.”
at‑Tirmidhi

Why an Appendix Matters for Tawḥīd

Tawḥīd is not only a concept to understand, but a reality to live. The main chapters explained belief, worship, character, law, and the path of faith. The appendix helps to keep those teachings present through simple tools.

Clear terms from the glossary protect you from confusion in belief. A correct understanding of words like shirk, īmān, kufr, and Sunnah is part of protecting tawḥīd in your mind and speech.

“So know that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and ask forgiveness for your sin.”
Qur’an 47:19

Knowing the line of prophets strengthens certainty that Islam is the continuation and completion of the same message Allah gave to earlier messengers. This keeps you away from the idea that there are many separate religions with different lords. Instead you see one Lord and one true religion, submission to Him.

“And We certainly sent into every nation a messenger, (saying), ‘Worship Allah and avoid ṭāghūt (false gods).’”
Qur’an 16:36

The selected verses on tawḥīd give you a direct connection to Allah’s own words about Himself. When doubts, desires, or social pressures appear, these verses are a shield. They remind you Who created you, why you were created, and to whom you will return.

“And We did not send before you any messenger except that We revealed to him that there is no deity except Me, so worship Me.”
Qur’an 21:25

Daily supplications, finally, take tawḥīd from theory to constant practice. When you say, with your tongue and heart, words that affirm your need of Allah and His greatness, you are living the confession of la ilaha illa Allah throughout the day, not only at the time you first entered Islam.

“Those who believe and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah. Indeed, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.”
Qur’an 13:28

A Final Encouragement

The appendix is a companion to your journey, not an exam. You are not required to master everything at once. Take one term, one verse, or one duʿāʾ at a time. Reflect on it, try to practice it, then move to the next. Over time, these small efforts gather into a strong foundation.

The most important purpose of this appendix is to help you remember, live, and protect tawḥīd in belief, worship, and daily life.

The Prophet ﷺ taught that knowledge comes through learning and that the path to knowledge is a path to Paradise.

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever travels a path seeking knowledge, Allah will make easy for him a path to Paradise.”
Muslim

Use this appendix as one part of that path, and keep asking Allah to open your heart to the truth, to keep you firm upon it, and to allow you to meet Him with a sound heart.

“The Day when neither wealth nor children will benefit, except one who comes to Allah with a sound heart.”
Qur’an 26:88‑89
