Health and Hearts
Your health in Dandy’s World is represented by hearts. Every hit that lands on you removes a portion of a heart or a full heart, depending on the Twisted and the situation. When you lose all hearts, your run with that toon is over for that floor, so every decision about pathing, greed on machines, or saving teammates is also a decision about how much health risk you are willing to take.
Hearts are usually shown as a small row near your interface. Some effects and items can temporarily increase the number of hearts, while others restore missing hearts. Most beginner mistakes come from assuming you can tank hits. You usually cannot. You should treat any lost heart as a resource that is extremely expensive to replace.
Damage is not always uniform. Some Twisteds or special attacks deal heavier damage than others, and certain floor events or hazards can chip you even if no Twisted is actively chasing you. Learning which threats are “half heart” threats and which are “full heart” threats will come with experience, but you should always approach new enemy types as if they can remove at least a full heart.
Some toons and trinkets interact directly with hearts. They may convert hearts into stamina, give you benefits while on low hearts, or protect you from lethal damage once. These effects do not change the basics. Staying at higher hearts always gives you more room for mistakes, especially on higher floors where errors cascade quickly.
Treat every heart as a limited, high value resource. Do not waste health on unnecessary risks. Once all hearts are gone, your contribution to the floor ends.
Stamina
Stamina controls how long you can sprint, how aggressively you can kite Twisteds, and how much you can reposition between machines. You can think of it as your short term mobility budget. When you run out of stamina, your toon slows to normal movement and becomes much easier to catch.
Stamina regenerates when you are not sprinting, usually at a constant rate. Some toons regenerate stamina faster or have a larger stamina pool, and some trinkets or items also change stamina behavior. Effective players rarely fully drain stamina except in emergencies, because being at zero stamina when a Twisted appears is one of the most common ways beginners die.
A good mental model is to imagine you keep at least one “emergency bar” of stamina in reserve when moving around dangerous parts of the map. Use short, controlled sprints to round corners, cross open areas, or break line of sight, and then let stamina recharge while you move normally. During distractions, stamina management becomes your main skill, since every extra second you can keep a Twisted occupied without running dry creates safety for your team.
Certain attacks or effects can reduce your stamina or slow its regeneration. Higher floors and some events may punish careless sprinting more heavily. As you improve, you will learn to read the map and use stamina only when it actually converts into survival or faster objectives, not just to move a little quicker.
Never let your stamina hit zero without a clear reason. Maintain a reserve so you can always escape unexpected detection or sudden aggro.
Skill Checks
Skill checks are quick reaction tests that appear while working on machines or certain interactables. When a skill check pops up, you must hit the required key or timing area within a brief window. Succeeding usually gives you safe or even bonus progress. Failing often creates noise, regression, or both, which attracts Twisteds and slows floor completion.
Most skill checks involve a moving marker and a highlighted success zone. Hitting in the highlighted part counts as a pass, while early, late, or missed inputs count as fails. Different toons and trinkets can modify how often checks occur, how difficult they are, or how punishing failures become. Some builds are designed to reduce or almost remove skill checks so that players with weaker timing can still extract efficiently.
The key to handling skill checks is preparation. Do not start a machine if you are distracted, in a bad physical position, or mid conversation with teammates. Look around first, make sure no Twisted is about to walk in, then commit your focus. If you are being chased, do not attempt a skill check unless you are intentionally using it as a desperate play.
As you gain experience, you will develop rhythm and pattern recognition. Many players find it useful to listen to the sound cues associated with skill checks, since audio often gives you an extra hint. When you first start the game, missing a few checks is normal. Just remember that each fail is more than an embarrassment. It is a noise signal that can reshape the patrol of nearby Twisteds.
Every failed skill check is a loud signal that can draw Twisteds. Focus fully when interacting with machines to avoid unnecessary noise.
Extraction Speed
Extraction speed determines how quickly you can complete machines and therefore how fast you can clear floors. It is influenced by several things: your toon’s base stats, trinkets that increase extraction, team synergies, and sometimes floor effects. Faster extraction reduces the time you spend exposed at a machine and cuts down on how many patrol cycles Twisteds have to find you.
In practice, extraction speed is not just about numbers. Positioning, pathing, and timing can multiply its effect. Working on safe machines first, grouping on a machine with teammates, and minimizing failed skill checks all amplify how much value you squeeze out of your extraction stat. Even a modest extraction bonus can feel huge if combined with clean mechanical play and good information about Twisted locations.
Extraction speed has diminishing benefit if you are constantly interrupted. Getting chased away from machines or failing checks over and over can erase the advantage of a high extraction build. This is why team roles matter. Distractors and supports make sure extractors actually get to stand still and use their speed.
On higher floors, extraction speed becomes more critical because Twisteds hit harder and mistakes cost more. Fast completion saves hearts simply by reducing total time spent in danger. Some runs will also focus on specific objectives like ichor or research, and in those cases a high extraction speed can help you squeeze in more machines before pressure becomes overwhelming.
High extraction speed only matters if you stay on the machine. Avoid unnecessary interruptions and failures to fully benefit from your extraction build.
Movement Speed
Movement speed affects how quickly you move at baseline and while sprinting. Players often notice sprint stamina first, but your base speed controls many subtle interactions, like whether you can safely cross a hallway after spotting a Twisted, or whether you can rejoin teammates in time to help.
The game balances movement speed carefully. Even small differences can decide whether you escape a chase at the last second or get clipped. Some toons have naturally higher movement speed, while others rely on trinkets or items to keep up. Risky floors, cramped layouts, or aggressive Twisteds magnify the value of every bit of extra speed.
Movement speed influences not just survival but also tempo. Faster characters reach machines, shops, and teammates sooner. Over a whole run this difference adds up to more objectives completed, more items collected, and more flexibility in responding to emergencies. On the other hand, high speed with poor control can cause you to overshoot corners or run directly into patrol paths.
During distractions and kiting, speed is tied tightly to stamina. A slightly faster toon can maintain a better distance with the same stamina usage, which makes looping and line of sight tricks much safer. When choosing builds, think about movement speed as a core survival stat, not a minor quality of life bonus.
Movement speed often decides close chases. Even small speed advantages can be the difference between escape and a lost heart.
Stealth
Stealth describes how likely you are to be noticed, how far sound travels from your actions, and how long you can stay close to Twisteds without triggering aggro. While the specifics depend on each Twisted, there are general patterns you can rely on.
Your noise footprint comes from things like sprinting near enemies, failing skill checks, interacting with certain objects, and sometimes from special abilities. The louder you are, the larger the area in which Twisteds will be drawn toward you to investigate. Visual detection usually depends on line of sight and distance. If you are in the open and a Twisted is looking your way, you are more likely to be seen quickly.
Some toons and trinkets increase stealth by reducing noise, shrinking detection ranges, or making it easier to reset aggro once seen. Stealthy play style also matters. Hugging cover, avoiding unnecessary sprinting in dangerous areas, and keeping machines between you and likely patrol paths give you many “free” stealth benefits even without special stats.
Stealth is not invisibility. If you work a machine in the middle of a common route, you will be found eventually. If you pass very close in front of a Twisted, it will notice you. Think of stealth as a modifier on risk rather than as a guarantee. You still need to read the environment and time your moves around patrols or known spawn points.
Stealth lowers, but does not remove, your chance of detection. Stay aware of line of sight and noise even when using stealth focused builds.
Inventory System
The inventory system limits how many items you can carry at once, usually to a small number of slots. Each slot is valuable. Every time you pick up an item, you implicitly decide which tools you will have available during crises. Beginners often fill their inventory with random items, then regret not having a crucial heal or stamina tool when it is needed most.
You can usually see your carried items in a small bar or grid, and you must select an item to use it. Using items typically has an animation or small delay, and some items cannot be used while moving freely. Planning when and where you will use an item is part of good mechanical play, because using a heal in the middle of a hallway while a Twisted patrols nearby is very different from doing so behind cover.
Certain toons or trinkets adjust your inventory capacity or modify particular item categories. Some builds rely on carrying several copies of the same item type, like stamina boosts for distractors or heals for supports. Other builds favor variety so they can adapt to whatever a floor throws at them. The system itself is simple, but the decisions it forces are not.
You will sometimes find items when your inventory is already full. In these moments you must evaluate, in seconds, whether the new item is better than one you currently have. Think about your role, your team’s state, and the floor. For example, dropping a small heal near the end of a relatively easy floor may be reasonable if you expect a harder next floor where a more powerful item would matter more.
Inventory space is limited. Always carry items that match your role and current needs instead of picking up everything you see.
Item Rarity
Item rarity groups items into different power and scarcity tiers. Common items are easy to find and usually provide modest but reliable benefits, like small heals or basic stamina refills. Rare items are harder to get and often have stronger or more complex effects that can change how you play a floor.
Although the game’s visual style presents rarity with colors or icons, what matters mechanically is how much a single item use can shift a bad situation into a manageable one. High rarity items may save multiple hearts at once, turn a dangerous chase into an escape, or dramatically increase extraction for a short period.
However, rarity does not mean you must always use the highest tier item first. It often means the opposite. You want to save powerful rares for moments when they will actually prevent a death, complete a crucial objective, or carry your team through a spike in difficulty. Using a rare panic button item to avoid a minor inconvenience is a waste of one of your strongest tools.
Rarity also interacts with progression, shops, and events. As you advance, you will learn which rare items are worth buying or preserving between floors, and which are overrated. Even common items have important roles, especially in sustaining you across many floors where you cannot rely on a constant stream of high rarity finds.
Higher rarity items are powerful but scarce. Save them for moments where they clearly prevent disaster or secure key objectives.
Toon Stats
Every toon in Dandy’s World comes with a set of stats that shape how they feel to play. Common stat categories include health, stamina, extraction speed, movement speed, and sometimes stealth or special resource modifiers. These stats are the foundation on which abilities and trinkets build.
Two toons with similar abilities can feel completely different because of their stats. One might be a fragile but fast extractor, another slower but able to take more hits. When you select a toon, you are effectively choosing which mechanical strengths and weaknesses you want to live with for that run.
Stats rarely exist in isolation. For example, high movement speed with low stamina creates a play style where you burst around quickly but must rest more often. High extraction with low stealth creates a fast but noisy worker who needs strong team support. Part of improving at the game is learning to read a toon’s stat sheet and immediately imagine what role suits it best.
You can augment stats through trinkets, items, and sometimes floor bonuses. However, the base profile remains. Trying to force a toon into a role that fights its stats usually feels awkward and weak. When thinking about upgrades or unlocks, pay attention not only to abilities but also to the underlying stats that support the play pattern you enjoy.

Aggro and Detection
Aggro describes whether a Twisted is currently focused on you or someone else. Detection is the process by which a Twisted notices a player in the first place. Detection usually starts when you enter a Twisted’s visual or auditory range. Line of sight, distance, and noise all matter. A Twisted may investigate a suspicious noise without fully committing to a chase, but once it sees you clearly or gets close enough, it will gain full aggro and start pursuing you.
Aggro can transfer between players if another player becomes a more attractive target, for example by moving closer, making more noise, or deliberately body blocking attention. Skilled distractors use this by intentionally pulling aggro from teammates who are in danger or trying to extract. However, careless movement can also cause accidental aggro steals that ruin someone else’s kite.
Losing aggro normally requires breaking line of sight for long enough, creating distance, or making use of specific map structures and mechanics. Some Twisteds are more persistent and hold aggro longer, while others drop it as soon as they lose sight of a target. At higher floors, misunderstanding these differences leads to many unnecessary hits.

Panic Mode
Panic mode is a heightened state that triggers under intense threat, often when a chase begins or an especially dangerous event occurs. When panic hits, many beginners make impulsive moves. They sprint in straight lines, forget the map layout, and burn all their stamina at once. The game’s audio and visual effects amplify this feeling, but you must train yourself to remain methodical. Remember that the mechanical rules do not change. Movement speed, line of sight, and stamina still obey the same logic.
Some mechanics, abilities, or trinkets interact specifically with panic or near death situations. They might grant temporary buffs when chased, extra stamina under pressure, or protective effects when you are one hit from death. These do not give you permission to be reckless. They are second layers of safety for when things already went wrong.
Mentally, think of panic mode as a warning that you are in a high risk moment. It is your cue to execute practiced escape patterns, use prepared items, and think ahead about safe destinations. With experience, panic mode becomes less of a shock and more of a familiar signal that it is time to play at your best.
Panic mode heightens stress but not your invincibility. Stay calm, follow your escape plan, and manage stamina instead of blindly sprinting.
Blackouts
Blackouts are temporary periods where visibility collapses and you must navigate with limited or altered information. The exact presentation can vary, but the effect is the same. You are suddenly more vulnerable to surprise encounters and pathing mistakes, and fine map knowledge becomes valuable.
During a blackout you may lose clear sight of Twisteds, machines, and even teammates. Sound becomes far more important. Footsteps, growls, and other audio cues often give you your only warning that a Twisted is nearby. Many players panic during their first few blackouts and run randomly, which often carries them straight into danger.
The safer response is to stop for a brief moment, remember where you are, and move toward known safe zones such as strong loops, previously cleared corridors, or team clusters, using walls and furniture as guides. If you know a blackout is likely, it can help to finish risky machine interactions before it starts and avoid committing to long exposed paths during the effect.
Blackouts interact heavily with other mechanics in this chapter. Poor stamina management, low stealth, and bad aggro awareness are all punished more during darkness. You must rely on fundamentals like hugging cover, avoiding unnecessary sprinting, and planning escape paths in advance.
In blackouts, your vision fails but threats do not. Use sound, map memory, and cautious movement instead of panicked sprinting through unknown space.
Floor Generation
Floors in Dandy’s World are generated from templates and randomized elements, so each run creates slightly different layouts and machine placements. You will see familiar patterns over time, but you cannot rely on a single fixed route. This procedural generation is what keeps the game fresh and forces you to adapt your mechanical skills to new situations.
Core elements usually remain consistent. There are machines to extract, item spawn areas, key chokepoints, and at least one elevator. Their exact positions, numbers, and connections change from run to run. Some floors have more open spaces that favor straight line kiting, while others are cramped and maze like, better suited to tight looping and line of sight tricks.
Twisted patrol routes and spawn points are also affected by floor generation. They tend to appear around important areas, but the specific paths they take will vary. As a result, you cannot memorize a single “safe route” forever. Instead, you must learn how to quickly scout a new floor, identify strong loops and danger zones, and plan paths between objectives.
The more you play, the better you become at reading a floor at a glance. You will start to recognize repeating room types, typical machine clusters, and frequent dead ends. Good players build a mental map within the first minute, then continuously refine it as they discover more rooms. This map guides decisions about where to extract, where to kite, and where to regroup.
Every floor is a variation on familiar patterns. Do not rely on fixed routes. Learn to read layouts quickly and adapt your pathing each run.
