15 Floors

How Floors Work

Floors are the basic layers of a run in Dandy’s World. Each time you take the elevator up, you move to a new floor with its own machines, Twisteds, items, and layout. The run only ends when you extract successfully from the elevator at the top target floor, or when your team wipes.

Every floor follows the same core loop. You spawn near an elevator, find and repair a certain number of machines, survive any floor events that occur, then reach the elevator to move on. As you go higher, the health and speed of enemies increase, machines take longer to fix, and floor layouts get more punishing.

The most important thing to understand is that floors are not just “more of the same.” Every few floors, multiple scaling systems step up at once. This is why runs can feel easy and then suddenly deadly only one floor later.

Floors get harder in several ways at once: machine time, Twisted strength, floor events, and layout complexity all scale together as you go higher.

Floor Difficulty

Floor difficulty is a combination of several hidden factors instead of a single “level.” When players say a floor is difficult, they usually mean one or more of these have scaled up:

  1. How long it takes to complete enough machines.
  2. How fast and punishing Twisteds are.
  3. How punishing a mistake is, especially with fewer safe areas.
  4. How often floor events appear and how dangerous they are.

You will feel early floors as learning and setup floors. Mid floors test how well your team performs its roles. Higher floors test your consistency and ability to stay calm even when things snowball.

You can think of perceived difficulty on a floor $F$ as a rough mix of several components:

where $M$ is machine pressure, $T$ is Twisted pressure, $L$ is layout pressure, and $E$ is event pressure.

You do not see these values directly, but you feel them through longer repairs, longer chases, and fewer easy routes. Failing to adapt when one of these jumps up is what usually causes wipes.

Machine Scaling

Machine scaling is one of the clearest changes as floors increase. Every floor up generally adds more total “work” that must be done, while also making it riskier to stay locked into a skill check for long.

You will notice three main aspects of machine scaling:

Time per machine: Each machine or total machine requirement per floor tends to increase with floor number. Even small increases in repair time add up quickly when Twisteds are more aggressive.

Punishment for interruption: Failing a skill check or being forced off a machine on higher floors is far more punishing. Lost progress means more time exposed, which in turn means more encounters and more stamina spent.

Exposure risk: On lower floors, you can often “greed” a few extra checks. On higher floors, every second on a machine while a Twisted is close can be lethal. Extraction builds and trinkets become critical to offset this rising exposure time.

You can think of the total extraction burden as increasing roughly like:

which means that the machine pressure grows with floor number. You handle this not by brute forcing more time on machines, but by improving routing, role discipline, and using extraction tools intelligently.

As floors rise, every failed skill check, every forced drop from a machine, and every wasted second on a bad machine location becomes far more dangerous.

Twisted Scaling

Twisteds grow deadlier the higher you go. This is not only about pure damage, but about how quickly they punish mistakes and how long they keep you under pressure during each chase.

Twisteds scale in several ways:

Movement speed: Even small speed increases dramatically shorten your reaction window. Loops that work on early floors may not be safe later.

Aggro persistence: Higher floors often feel like Twisteds are “stickier.” They are less forgiving of line-of-sight resets and can require more precise routing to break chases.

Damage impact: Losing hearts on high floors hurts more because the margin for error is already thin, and healing items become more valuable and often rarer relative to the danger.

Density and combinations: On higher floors, you encounter more Twisteds and more dangerous mixes at the same time. Scaling is not only “stronger enemies” but also “more overlapping threats.”

It helps to think of effective Twisted pressure as something like:

with $\alpha > 1$, which means Twisted pressure rises faster than machine pressure alone. Even if exact numbers differ, the idea is that enemies feel disproportionately harsher as floors increase.

A Twisted that feels manageable on floor 3 can feel nearly impossible to shake on floor 20, purely because speed, aggression, and map pressure all scaled up together.

Floor Layouts

Floor layouts decide how playable a floor feels. The same Twisteds on a generous layout are manageable, but on a cramped or awkward layout they become deadly.

As floors go higher, you will see layouts with:

Longer hallways and fewer safe bends: Long straight lines are dangerous when Twisteds are faster, because you cannot easily break line of sight.

Fewer forgiving loops: Early floors often have obvious loop paths where you can run circles around a Twisted. Higher floors may restrict these, forcing you to use more creative routes and tighter corners.

More dead ends or “fake safe” rooms: Places that look safe at a glance can turn into traps if you commit to them without an exit plan.

Harder machine positions: Key machines may spawn in the open, near patrol paths, or deep in areas with poor escape options. Pathing to these safely becomes a core skill.

Layout difficulty is about how easily you can do three things at once: reach machines, maintain safe escape paths, and avoid funneling yourself into bad spots when chased. Learning where the map “breathes” and where it “chokes” is essential, especially for distractors.

Floor Events

Floor events are special happenings that temporarily change the rules of a floor. They often add intense difficulty spikes on top of existing scaling, which is why even an otherwise simple floor can suddenly become lethal.

Common types of floor events include:

Visibility changes: Events that reduce vision, alter lighting, or otherwise make it harder to read the map. These increase the risk of walking into patrols or losing track of your escape route.

Twisted behavior changes: Events that affect aggro range, speed, or detection. Twisteds might become more easily triggered or harder to shake.

Machine or extraction modifiers: Events that delay extraction, block certain machines temporarily, or force you to adapt your usual routing.

What makes floor events scary is that they usually overlap with your current tasks. You may already be mid chase, at low stamina, or halfway through a machine when an event hits.

Never treat floor events as background flavor. They are designed to stack on top of floor scaling and punish teams that do not react immediately.

Dangerous Floors

Not all floors are equally dangerous. Certain “breakpoints” exist where several kinds of scaling line up, causing a noticeable jump in difficulty. While the exact numbers can change with patches, you will usually feel the danger spike before you can put words on it.

A floor becomes especially dangerous when:

Twisted speed crosses a threshold: The point where a Twisted you could outrun before now catches up if you take one bad corner.

Machine time outgrows safe windows: You can no longer complete a machine during a short calm period and must coordinate protection and distractions.

Layouts punish your habits: If you still use low floor routing habits, higher floors suddenly start punishing “shortcut” paths that worked earlier.

You should treat dangerous floors as checkpoints that require mental reset. On these floors, you want to:

Slow down briefly before committing to machines.
Communicate clearly about patrols and events.
Avoid greedy plays like soloing a risky machine in a hot zone.

Preparing for Higher Floors

Preparation for higher floors does not start when you reach them. It begins on the earlier floors where you build the foundations of a stable run.

There are four main preparation pillars:

Health and resources: Entering higher floors with missing hearts or no healing is asking for trouble. Try to leave mid floors with at least a small safety buffer in hearts and key items.

Team role discipline: By the time floors are scaling hard, your team should already be comfortable with who extracts, who distracts, and who supports. Last second role confusion causes deaths.

Routing familiarity: Use lower floors to learn map structure, item spawn tendencies, and safe loops. What you learn there often carries forward because many patterns repeat.

Mental pacing: High floors punish panic. Practice slowing your decision making under pressure. It is better to pull off a machine early and survive than to hold and die with 90 percent progress.

You can think of your “readiness” for higher floors as something like:

where $S$ is your stats and items, $K$ is your knowledge of maps and Twisteds, and $C$ is your coordination or personal discipline. High floors expose weaknesses in any of these components.

If your health, items, roles, and routing are not stabilized before difficulty spikes, you are not “unlucky” when higher floors wipe you. You are under prepared.

Floor 10+

Floors in the 10 and above range are typically where casual runs start to break down. You have enough scaling that mistakes are costly, but not yet so extreme that every second feels lethal.

On floor 10 and above, you will usually notice:

Twisteds feel much faster: Lazy wide turns and sloppy loops that worked before stop being safe. You must start hugging walls and using corners efficiently.

Machine risks rise: Staying alone on an exposed machine for too long is often punished. Teams should start syncing “cover” and “distract” calls more deliberately.

Events hurt more: An event that simply felt annoying earlier can now combine with faster Twisteds to become life threatening.

From floor 10 onward, it is smart to:

Play more cautiously around blind corners and long hallways.
Avoid greed if you see or hear nearby Twisteds while extracting.
Use stamina items and utility items more proactively, not just as emergency panic buttons.

These floors are the bridge between comfortable play and high risk. They teach you the habits you must master to survive even higher tiers.

Floor 20+

Floor 20 and above is where Dandy’s World starts to feel truly punishing. Scaling has accumulated enough that simple habits from early floors are no longer sufficient.

On floor 20 and above, you will often face:

Near constant pressure: There is much less “quiet time.” Twisteds appear more frequently and cover more of the map in their patrols.

Lethal mistakes: A single misjudged loop, a late reaction to a floor event, or one greedy machine hold can wipe a whole team.

Heavy machine commitment: Machines feel as if they demand full team attention. Splitting too far without coordination can cause multiple players to be downed quickly.

You must switch from “trying to go fast” to “trying to stay alive while being efficient.” Every role must be executed purposefully.

Helpful habits for floor 20 and above include:

Sticking closer to teammates for safer revives and combined routing.
Planning extraction windows around Twisted patrol cycles rather than rushing as soon as you see a machine.
Making conscious choices about which machines are worth the risk and which are better left until later or with support.

From floor 20 upward, treat every chase, every machine, and every event as potentially lethal. Survival comes first. Progress happens when it is safe, not simply when it is available.

Deep Run Strategies

Deep runs are those where you intentionally push as high as possible, often beyond 20, and test the limits of your builds and coordination. At this point, the goal is not just “finish this floor,” but “stay stable across many increasingly hostile floors.”

Effective deep run play revolves around a few core strategies.

First, prioritize consistency over hero plays. High risk solo saves or greedy extractions might look impressive, but they often end runs. Favor safe revives, well covered machines, and pre planned distractions instead of spontaneous stunts.

Second, manage stamina and positioning as long term resources. Do not dump all your stamina just to shave a second off a route. Keep enough reserve to react to unexpected Twisteds or events. Position yourself in areas where you have multiple escape paths rather than staying near dead ends.

Third, think in terms of cycles rather than moments. Watch Twisted patrol patterns and plan machine work in small windows, then reset and reposition when the pattern closes. Good teams treat each patrol cycle as a mini phase, steadily chipping away at progress instead of trying to brute force.

Fourth, keep communication chill and clear. Deep runs last a long time and mental fatigue is real. Short, useful calls and calm corrections prevent panic spirals. If a floor feels unstable, briefly slow down, reset your positions, clarify roles, then resume.

Finally, accept that not every floor should be pushed at the same speed. Some layouts plus event combinations are simply worse than others. On these, shift your mindset to “survive and stabilize” instead of “push hard.” On more favorable floors, you can make up time and progress.

Your job is to keep the numerator steady while driving the denominator as close to zero as possible. Over many floors, even tiny improvements in safety make the difference between a run that collapses at a spike and one that survives far beyond what your stats alone would suggest.

Deep runs are endurance tests. Teams that stay calm, avoid greed, and treat every floor as a new problem to solve will always outlast teams that rely only on raw speed or mechanical skill.
