In everyday conversation Georgians usually mention dates in a simple phrase without full sentences.

Basic question

To ask the date, the most common way is:

• დღეს რამდენი თავი არის?
  dghe-s ramdeni tavi aris?
  “What is the date today?” (literally, “How many is today’s date?”)

Another possibility is:

• დღეს რა თარიღია?
  dghe-s ra tarigia?
  “What is the date today?”

Here, თარიღი tarigi means “date” (calendar date).

Basic answer pattern

Typical answer structure:

• დღეს არის + [day number in ordinal form] + [month in genitive] + (წელი)

For now, you can use a simpler version, which you will hear a lot:

• დღეს …-ია.
  “Today is … .”

Examples:

• დღეს პირველი იანვარია.
  dghe-s pirveli ianuaria
  “Today is the first of January.”
• დღეს ოცდახუთი დეკემბერია.

Note that in these examples the day number comes first, then the month.

Saying the full date

A clear way to say a full date is:

Georgians often omit the word წელი when context is clear:

• ორი ათას ოცდამესამე (წელი)
  ori atas otsdamesame (tseli)
  “2023”

In writing, people also use numbers with dots, similar to many European styles.

Here the suffix -ია / -ა attaches to the holiday name to say “it is [holiday]”.

• როდის არის შენი დაბადების დღე?
  rodis aris sheni dabadis dghe?
  “When is your birthday?” (informal)
• როდის არის თქვენი დაბადების დღე?
  rodis aris tkveni dabadis dghe?
  “When is your birthday?” (polite / plural)

You can use the same როდის არის…? pattern for holidays too:

• როდის არის შობა?
  rodis aris shoba?
  “When is Christmas?”
• როდის არის თბილისობა?
  rodis aris tbilisoba?
  “When is Tbilisoba?”
